Backend Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)

Applicants can work from anywhere, with working hours aligned to Central European Time (CET). A fast-growing AI platform company that turns images and text into ready-to-use 3D models serves a large global base of creators and game developers, and is now expanding into business customers with custom AI workflows. This is a hands-on backend role where you take full ownership of a Django application and its production server. You will work directly with the founder and learn the existing system from the current backend engineer before taking over.

What you'll do

• Own the Python/Django backend: review and improve existing code, then build new features with the founder.
• Manage a Linux production server, including deployments, software updates and server security.
• Investigate incidents, troubleshoot production issues and improve performance and stability.
• Maintain the PostgreSQL database, including query optimisation and migrations, and help move it to a managed hosting provider.
• Keep background jobs, external API integrations, monitoring and backups reliable.
• Use AI coding tools daily to work faster without sacrificing code quality.

What you need

• Strong production experience building and maintaining backends with Python and Django.
• Good PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including query optimisation and schema migrations.
• Hands-on Linux server administration and production troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with REST APIs and background task queues such as Celery or RabbitMQ.
• Comfortable with Git, code reviews, automated testing and safe deployment practices.
• Able to work with CET-aligned hours, independently, and to communicate technical issues clearly in English.
