Data API Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)

Candidates can work from anywhere; the team operates asynchronously across more than 60 countries. A developer backend platform company with a fully remote, open-source-first team is hiring a Data API Engineer. The role focuses on improving the feature set, reliability and performance of the company's data API, which is built on an open-source PostgreSQL-to-REST project. The work suits someone who enjoys fast-moving, asynchronous teams and building developer tools meant to scale to very large user bases.

What you'll do

• Improve the performance of the PostgreSQL database driver used by the API, finding and removing bottlenecks.
• Build new features and fix bugs with the goal of supporting a multitenant data API.
• Resolve production incidents and escalated support issues while improving observability.
• Work with other platform teams to debug and resolve integration issues across the wider backend product.
• Contribute upstream to the open-source project and engage with its community.

What you need

• At least 3 years of professional experience writing Haskell.
• Working knowledge of the C language.
• Solid understanding of SQL and PL/pgSQL in PostgreSQL.
• A track record of contributing to open-source projects; experience maintaining one is a plus.
• Experience supporting technical users with varying levels of expertise.
• Experience debugging applications on Linux.
• Comfortable working asynchronously across time zones.
