Senior to Staff Software Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)

A fast-growing software company that builds secure, cloud-native delivery solutions for federal and enterprise customers is hiring a Senior to Staff Software Engineer. The role centers on modernizing a legacy, on-premises maintenance planning and execution tool into a cloud-native platform for a U.S. Navy program. You will help shape technical requirements and own delivery from development through user acceptance testing, production transition, and sustainment. The team works fully asynchronously across multiple vendors and government stakeholders.

What you'll do

• Translate ambiguous product needs into technical designs in partnership with engineers, data architects, platform teams, and government stakeholders
• Build optimized data transformations for cleaning, enriching, and modeling data using cloud-native tools, while maintaining data quality, lineage, and compliance
• Refactor existing on-premises systems into distributed, cloud-based services and integrate them with existing defense systems securely
• Contribute to authentication, identity, and RBAC/ABAC designs, and drive best practices in microservice design, testing, observability, and CI/CD
• Own architecture decisions, lead code reviews, mentor engineers, and produce design specifications and maintenance documentation

What you need

• 7+ years of software engineering experience for senior level, or 10+ years for staff level
• Expert proficiency in at least one modern language such as Go, TypeScript, or Python, with testable, idiomatic code
• Strong background in system design, API development beyond basic CRUD, relational database design and query optimization, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Experience decomposing a monolithic application into smaller services, plus working knowledge of Kubernetes concepts such as controllers, operators, and CRDs
• Experience with authorization, data governance, policy enforcement, and role-based access control; familiarity with Department of Defense acquisition or sustainment software is a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working asynchronously across time zones
