Specifications Writer - EV Construction (Remote - US only)
This is a technical authority role within the design studio of a global consultancy that delivers physical infrastructure for EV clients. You will define how facilities are built, maintained and scaled across a worldwide network. The work sits between architecture, engineering and procurement, turning spatial concepts into clear, enforceable material and performance standards. You will work with design, governance, BIM and engineering teams to close gaps in standards and produce buildable, legally sound specifications.
What you'll do
- Write, review and refine specification sections across CSI Divisions 01 through 48 to match evolving design standards and R&D needs.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and civil engineers so engineering and architectural specifications fit together.
- Audit current standards, identify missing sections and research and write new ones from scratch.
- Evaluate proposed products, finishes and equipment against durability, cost, sustainability goals and codes such as IBC, NFPA, ADA, ASTM, ANSI and UL.
- Build checklists and review tools that project managers use to check external architect-of-record submittals.
- Maintain the studio's master specification database and keep templates current for production teams. Field lessons learned from construction and operations teams should feed back into the standards.
What you need
- 5 to 8+ years of experience in technical specification writing, architectural production or A/E contract document delivery, or equivalent technical expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and edit both architectural and MEP/structural specifications.
- Working knowledge of CSI MasterFormat, UniFormat and SectionFormat as applied to multi-site facility rollouts.
- Proficiency with industry-standard specification software such as BSD SpecLink or MasterSpec.
- Experience reviewing material data sheets and testing and building standards.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, or equivalent technical training or experience.
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to make complex engineering concepts concise and enforceable.
