Forward Deployed Research Engineer (Visa Sponsorship - Singapore)

Visa sponsorship available. A small engineering team at an early-stage AI infrastructure company works on reinforcement learning and AI evaluation. The role focuses on resolving urgent, loosely defined technical problems for AI research groups and data partners, getting deployments unblocked, and turning repeated problems into reusable tools.

What you'll do

• Work out what an ambiguous technical problem actually requires and define the scope.
• Take ownership of deployment requests from first triage through to completion, for both external partners and internal teams.
• Build tools and one-off pipelines to resolve urgent customer and partner issues.
• Work with research and go-to-market teams to clear deployment blockers.
• Balance speed and quality when requirements are unclear and deadlines are tight.
• Document recurring issues and convert manual work into reusable tooling and processes.

What you need

• Two to four years of experience in applied research engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or a similar hands-on technical role.
• Technical education background and solid general AI engineering skills.
• Proficiency in Python, Docker and Linux environments.
• Experience with benchmarks and evaluations for AI agents or reinforcement learning training data, including judgment on task realism, rubric reliability and useful trajectories.
• Strong debugging skills across code, data and environments; experience building tools or pipelines for urgent problems.
• Comfortable working directly with technical customers, vendors and cross-functional teams, including during production or deployment issues, and communicating across time zones.
• Experience in an early-stage startup is valued.
