Senior Backend Software Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)

Open to candidates anywhere in the world; the team works asynchronously across more than 60 countries. A fast-growing developer platform company with an open-source-first culture is hiring a backend engineer for its file storage service, one of its fastest-growing products. The work covers the full stack, from client libraries and CLI tools to a CDN layer, the storage server and its deployment infrastructure. The goal is to make uploading, processing and delivering files simple for developers at very large scale.

What you'll do

• Improve the performance, observability and reliability of a high-throughput Node.js storage server
• Work on upload resilience and retry behavior across clients, the S3-compatible protocol and resumable upload layers
• Build out edge and CDN capabilities such as faster uploads and cache invalidation
• Improve APIs, client libraries and CLI tools to make the developer experience smooth end to end
• Investigate and resolve escalated support issues and the systemic problems behind them
• Contribute to open-source server code and upstream dependencies

What you need

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience running Node.js in production
• Experience building highly scalable, distributed systems
• Comfortable working across the stack, including deploying, monitoring and scaling services
• Familiarity with observability and performance tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus or Grafana
• Production experience with PostgreSQL, including tuning and troubleshooting
• Strong ownership mindset, able to drive projects end to end in an asynchronous environment, with empathy for developer experience
