Senior Software Engineer (Remote - South Africa)

This is a full-time remote role with a company building and maintaining software products. The team needs a senior engineer who can work across the frontend and backend, design APIs, work with databases, and support cloud-hosted applications. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, design and QA to deliver scalable, high-quality systems. Working hours follow U.S. business hours.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain scalable full-stack applications, including user-facing features in React, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Design, develop and integrate REST and/or GraphQL APIs on modern backend technologies.
• Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases and with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Create and maintain Docker-based applications and CI/CD pipelines, and improve performance, security and reliability.
• Write clean, well-tested code, take part in code reviews, and help shape architecture and technical decisions.
• Mentor junior developers and share technical knowledge with the team.

What you need

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and supporting production applications.
• Strong skills in React, JavaScript and TypeScript, plus backend experience with Node.js, Python, Java, .NET or similar.
• Experience developing or integrating REST APIs and/or GraphQL, and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud), Docker and CI/CD.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum or similar processes, and strong debugging, testing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setup and be available during U.S. business hours. Must be based in South Africa.
