Finance & Tax Assistant

A full-time onsite role in Lagos supporting the finance function of a business. The work centres on keeping accurate books and statutory records, reconciling accounts, and helping prepare and file company tax obligations such as VAT, company income tax and PAYE. It suits an accounts or tax professional with at least a year of hands-on experience who has actually prepared and filed returns, not only studied tax in theory, and who enjoys detailed, well-organised work and clear communication with advisers and colleagues.

What you'll do

• Maintain accurate accounting records, invoices, receipts and supporting financial documents
• Prepare and maintain trial balances, financial reports and statutory accounts
• Assist in preparing and filing company tax returns and statutory obligations including VAT, CIT and PAYE
• Perform bank, receivables, payables and inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Support audit processes by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
• Liaise with tax consultants, auditors and internal departments as needed

What you need

• BSc or HND in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related field
• At least 1 year of relevant accounting and tax experience
• Practical experience preparing and filing company tax returns (VAT, CIT, PAYE)
• Strong bookkeeping, reconciliation and financial reporting skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including SUMIFS, lookup formulas and PivotTables
• Experience with QuickBooks, Sage or similar software is an advantage
