Hausa Coder / Analyst (Remote)

A remote, project-based role for a Hausa-speaking researcher to review and annotate Hausa social media content for a humanitarian research project. The work suits a careful, detail-minded person with a background in social science, language or media, who is comfortable reading both Boko and Ajami Hausa and working to deadlines with little day-to-day supervision. The organisation is a health and humanitarian support initiative working across Nigeria. Engagement is subject to contract award.

What you'll do

• Code Hausa social media posts for tone, stance, theme and narrative on a secure annotation platform
• Double-code a gold-standard reference set and take part in weekly reliability checks
• Translate selected quotes into English
• Flag posts suggesting risk to an identifiable person, following the safeguarding protocol
• Submit community feedback reports through the project reporting line

What you need

• First degree in a social science, language, media or related field
• At least 2 years' experience in research assistance, qualitative coding, transcription or translation
• Native Hausa speaker who reads Boko script and ideally Ajami script, with good written English
• Active user of Hausa social media, familiar with slang, proverbs and code-switching
• Preferred: research experience on gender, health or protection
• Careful, consistent and reliable under deadlines; able to work remotely with minimal supervision
