Translation & Language QA Lead

A remote role for a language specialist who will lead quality assurance on Hausa to English translation work. The organisation produces research and media content and values precise, culturally aware language. The role suits an experienced bilingual translator who enjoys careful review, terminology management and working to tight deadlines. Engagement depends on the contract being awarded, so the role is best suited to people comfortable with project-based work.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain a bilingual Hausa–English termbase for the project
• Review quotes used in deliverables for accuracy, tone and register
• Carry out blind back-translation checks on sampled and priority quotes against a 95% meaning-equivalence target
• Transliterate Ajami content into Boko and add cultural notes before translation

What you need

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Linguistics, Translation, Hausa Studies or a related field
• At least 5 years of professional Hausa–English translation experience, ideally for research or media
• Native Hausa speaker with excellent written English
• Preferred: Ajami literacy
• Preferred: translation experience on gender, health or religious content
• Precision, cultural sensitivity and ability to meet tight review deadlines
