News & Copy Editor

This is a remote, contract role for an editor who will review pairs of AI-generated news and copy writing samples and judge them for quality. The work is part of a structured evaluation process in which the editor compares two drafts against a task brief and a writing guide, checks accuracy and clarity, and records a preferred sample with a short rationale. The role starts with a five-day pilot, with the possibility of an ongoing month-to-month arrangement. It suits experienced desk or copy editors who are fast, precise, and comfortable cutting copy to the point on a deadline.

What you'll do

• Review paired AI-generated news and copy samples against the task brief and writing guide
• Check content for factual accuracy, appropriate hedging, and leads that bury the key point
• Select a preferred sample and write a one-line reason for the choice
• Apply quality tags to each sample
• Complete a calibration check before working on live data

What you need

• Desk or copy editing experience at a major news organisation
• Comfortable cutting copy to the point on tight deadlines
• Strong attention to factual detail and the ability to spot errors on first reading
• Able to work about 5 hours a day across 5 business days for the pilot

Open to applicants anywhere in the world.
