Software Engineer, AI Data (Remote - US only)

This is a fully distributed role with a fast-growing consumer AI company that builds text-to-speech reading tools used by tens of millions of people. The AI team is building the data pipelines that feed model training and new AI products. You will work on petabyte-scale audio and text datasets, balancing data quality, throughput and cost. The company runs on an asynchronous, autonomy-driven culture with no office.

What you'll do

• Find new sources of audio data and build reliable pipelines that bring them into training datasets.
• Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems, optimizing for quality, throughput and cost.
• Work closely with AI scientists to improve training datasets and support next-generation model development.
• Own engineering projects from problem discovery through implementation and ongoing improvement.
• Maintain production data systems and resolve issues in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

What you need

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with solid backend fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments.
• Experience building and operating production systems, ideally data pipelines or large-scale data processing.
• Ability to work independently with strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
• Must be based in the United States.
• Experience with web crawlers, data acquisition or distributed data-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, particularly GCP and Terraform.
