Applied AI Engineer (Remote - US only)

Open to employees located anywhere in the continental United States. No travel required. A health technology company is building AI-driven personalized guidance that helps people decide what to do next for their body, goals and stage of life, then supports lasting behavior change. The team combines AI, human expertise, personal health data and accountability. This Applied AI Engineer role is hands-on and product-focused, with a mandate to take AI features from concept to production and measure them with real users.

What you'll do

• Build and ship LLM-based agents that serve real users, including tool calling with structured output, parallel API orchestration and streaming responses.
• Design evaluation harnesses and quality scoring rubrics covering safety, effectiveness and personalization, using LLM observability tooling.
• Own the full loop: prototype an agent capability, validate it with evals, deploy to staging and production, monitor traces and iterate.
• Improve reliability, latency and cost through prompt caching, token budgets, retry logic and observability.
• Write the tools agents call, such as validated API integrations, search over local databases and structured data submission.

What you need

• Strong Python skills with experience building and deploying services in large production systems.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph or similar agent frameworks.
• Hands-on production experience with LLMs: prompt engineering, function calling, structured output and evaluation.
• Comfortable with async Python, HTTP APIs and streaming protocols such as SSE and webhooks.
• Experience with data validation and schema design (for example Pydantic or JSON Schema).
• Able to debug across layers, from a faulty LLM tool call to infrastructure configuration, and communicate clearly with product, mobile and backend engineers.
• Must be located in the continental United States.
