Controller (FP&A, Financial Reporting & Accounting Leadership) (Remote, South Africa)

A recruitment firm is hiring on behalf of a growing organization for a hands-on Controller who will lead accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance and the month-end close. The position suits an accountant who pairs strong technical knowledge of accounting standards with financial planning, team leadership and process improvement. You will work alongside executive leadership, FP&A, operations and external auditors, and the role carries high visibility with senior management.

What you'll do

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual close, targeting completion within five business days, and review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, depreciation schedules and intercompany transactions.
• Prepare complete financial statement packages and executive reporting, including variance analysis, commentary and dashboards, and support board and investor reporting.
• Design and strengthen internal controls, ensure GAAP and IFRS compliance, meet tax and regulatory filing deadlines, and coordinate external audits and PBC requests.
• Partner with FP&A on budgets, forecasts, scenario and capital planning, and monitor cash flow, liquidity, working capital and debt compliance.
• Lead, mentor and develop the accounting team, setting quality standards and reviewing work for accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
• Drive ERP, automation and workflow improvements, write SOPs and reduce manual processing.

What you need

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, internal controls, financial reporting and financial close management.
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle or QuickBooks Enterprise, and advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to present findings to executives.
• Based in South Africa and able to work U.S. business hours. CPA, ACCA or MBA is a plus.
