HR Operations Specialist (Remote, South Africa)

This is a fully remote HR operations role for someone based in South Africa, supporting a professional services firm with offices in the United States and internationally. The work centres on onboarding, compliance tracking, recruitment support and creating training materials for a distributed team. The organisation is looking for someone who is methodical, comfortable learning new software, and interested in using AI and automation to make HR processes more efficient. The role is offered as an independent contractor engagement and suits an organised, self-directed HR professional with experience supporting a U.S.-based employer.

What you'll do

• Support new-hire onboarding so employees are set up on company technology within their first week
• Assist with HR document, process and compliance audits and track required documents, certifications, training and policy acknowledgements
• Follow up with employees and managers on outstanding compliance items and keep HR records accurate in the HRIS
• Support sourcing for open roles, manage candidate pipelines, and help with background and reference checks
• Help create and update SOPs, training curricula, onboarding materials and knowledge checks
• Identify workflow improvements using automation and AI tools and maintain operational workflows on project-management platforms

What you need

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or a related field
• At least 2 years of HR operations experience for a U.S.-based company, covering onboarding, compliance or employee lifecycle support
• Experience with HRIS and workflow or project-management tools, and quick to learn new systems
• Excellent written and spoken English and a proactive, self-directed approach in a remote setting
• Ability to document processes clearly and use AI tools for content and documentation work
• Based in South Africa with at least 5-6 hours of daily overlap with Pacific Time working hours
