Senior Data Architect (Remote - Latin America)

This is a remote contract role with a talent-as-a-service firm that places Latin American software and data specialists with international clients. You would be allocated to a client's data team and work as their senior data architect. The role centers on designing and owning a lakehouse platform, guiding migrations from legacy warehouses, and setting engineering and governance standards for the team.

What you'll do

• Design and own an end-to-end lakehouse architecture on Databricks using medallion (bronze/silver/gold) patterns.
• Build and tune batch and streaming pipelines using PySpark, Spark SQL and Python.
• Lead platform migrations from legacy warehouses or Hadoop/EMR to Databricks, with measurable gains in cost and run time.
• Define data governance covering Unity Catalog, fine-grained access control, auditing, lineage and GDPR-style compliance.
• Set engineering standards: CI/CD, automated testing, code review, reusable packages and infrastructure as code with Terraform; drive FinOps practices.
• Advise other teams on architecture and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

What you need

• 10+ years in data engineering, including 5+ years hands-on with Databricks and Spark in production.
• Strong Python and PySpark, working knowledge of Scala, and advanced SQL.
• Proven record designing data lakes, warehouses or lakehouses, including at least one large migration you led.
• Production experience on AWS, Azure or GCP, plus hands-on Unity Catalog governance and Terraform.
• Fluent English at C1 level or higher, with strong communication skills for both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Must be based in Latin America and able to work remotely.
