Senior Data Engineer (Remote - US only)
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US; no visa sponsorship is offered now or in the future. A established consumer lending and insurance marketplace is looking for a senior data engineer to build and run the data pipelines, models, and data services that power reporting and analytics across its lending and insurance lines of business. The role combines hands-on engineering with ownership of reliability, cost efficiency, and team standards. You will work closely with analytics, data science, product, and business operations teams.
What you'll do
- Build and operate scalable batch and streaming pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows, with clear plans for schema changes, retries, and recovery.
- Design dimensional models and reusable datasets, and run complex data analysis to validate business rules and surface trends and anomalies.
- Own the reliability of production data solutions: automate quality checks, monitor data freshness, tune performance and compute costs, and take part in an on-call rotation.
- Create reusable frameworks and development patterns, apply automated testing and code review, and maintain runbooks and documentation.
- Partner with business and engineering teams to clarify requirements and contribute to the data engineering roadmap and delivery estimates.
- Use AI-assisted tools for development, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting, while validating outputs and protecting sensitive data.
What you need
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT development, and supporting production systems.
- Advanced SQL skills, including writing, tuning, and debugging complex queries.
- Experience designing data lakes and warehouses on scalable distributed platforms, with an understanding of batch and streaming integration.
- Strong dimensional modeling skills, including defining grain, fact and dimension tables, and handling historical change.
- Ability to deliver projects with minimal guidance in an Agile team, using testing, version control, and systematic troubleshooting.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain findings and technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Experience with cloud data warehouse performance and cost tuning, or SQL Server.
