Senior Data Scientist, Credit (Remote - UK only)

This role sits within a fast-growing fintech company with a large consumer lending business serving customers across Nigeria and the wider African market. The Senior Data Scientist will help shape how credit is priced, limits are set and lending products are personalised. You will build the first suite of credit risk models for the business and help the team decide when machine learning is the right tool and when traditional methods are better. The role works closely with a consumer credit team and product squads.

What you'll do

• Build and deploy credit scoring, affordability and behavioural models used for underwriting, pricing and collections
• Design and run experiments to improve approval rates, loss rates and profitability
• Work with product squads to embed decision logic into real-time systems
• Create models that support collections, churn reduction and customer retention
• Ensure data quality, regulatory compliance and ethical use of models across decisioning
• Coach product teams on experimentation and data-driven decision-making

What you need

• Degree or equivalent in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, engineering or similar
• At least 5 years of experience in data science, decision science or risk analytics, ideally in financial services
• Working knowledge of credit risk, consumer lending and the regulatory considerations around them
• Strong SQL and at least one modelling language such as Python or R
• Experience with A/B testing, machine learning, collections modelling and churn management
• Able to turn complex analysis into clear recommendations for business stakeholders
• Must be able to work from the United Kingdom
