Senior Manager, Credit Risk (Remote, Canada)
Employees in the company's hub cities (Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, Kitchener-Waterloo) follow an in-office schedule; employees elsewhere in Canada work remotely. A fast-growing software company serving small service businesses is building a credit risk function for its payments product and a planned lending business. This leader will manage a team of credit risk analysts, own day-to-day credit operations, and help shape an AI-native approach to risk decisioning. The role sits within the company's fintech department and works closely with data science, product, finance, legal and compliance.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach and grow a team of credit risk analysts, including future team leads, and set hiring plans and career paths.
- Own underwriting, exposure decisions, portfolio monitoring, collections strategy and loss forecasting.
- Define and maintain the credit risk appetite, credit policy and limit framework, and serve as final escalation point for high-exposure exceptions.
- Work with data science and risk analytics to build, validate and monitor scorecards and statistical or machine learning credit models.
- Own expected credit loss methodology (IFRS 9 or equivalent GAAP), stress testing and reporting to executives and committees, and support funding partner due diligence and vendor relationships.
What you need
- 8+ years of credit risk experience in financial services, fintech, payments or lending, including 3+ years of people leadership.
- Track record of setting credit policy and risk limits and managing a portfolio through a period of stress or a full credit cycle.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python (or similar) to pull and analyze data independently, and working knowledge of logistic regression, decision trees and gradient boosting, including model governance (validation, drift monitoring, explainability).
- Hands-on experience with IFRS 9 or CECL expected credit loss models and their governance.
- Strong communication skills for presenting to executives, credit committees, auditors and external partners.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada. Canadian or US small business lending regulation knowledge is a plus.
Applicants must be based in: Canada.
