Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack (Remote - Africa)

An early-stage, AI-native start-up based in Europe is building digital tools that help non-profits and public organisations find and write grant applications. The product already has paying customers and a small engineering team, so this hire will influence both the product and how engineering is organised. You will work directly with the founders and the grant-writing team, without a separate product manager or designer in between.

What you'll do

• Own features end-to-end, including the user interface, from discovery with the grant team through to production
• Turn unclear business problems into technical plans, ship a first version quickly, then iterate
• Improve the AI pipeline through prompt design, context management, cost control and use of multiple model providers
• Build and maintain an evaluation process for prompt quality, model selection and regression detection
• Operate, monitor and debug the production environment, including application errors, logs and Postgres performance
• Shape architecture decisions, code quality standards and the technical roadmap

What you need

• 2+ years in a senior engineering role, with a record of owning products or major features end-to-end
• Start-up or scale-up experience, including shipping a working solution from a vague brief
• Several years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js, and solid PostgreSQL skills (JSONB, query tuning, migrations)
• Working knowledge of Next.js, React Query, Express, BullMQ and AWS (ECS, RDS)
• Hands-on experience running AI pipelines in production, not only calling an API
• Daily use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
• Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues

Applicants must be based in: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda.
