Software Engineer, AI Data (Remote - US only)

The company is fully distributed with no office, so the role can be done from anywhere in the US. This is a full-time software engineering role on the AI team of a remote-first AI audio company that builds reading and learning technology used by millions of people. The team builds the large-scale data pipelines that feed model training and new AI products. The work suits an engineer who likes open-ended problems, finding new data sources, and making training data more efficient and scalable. The company works asynchronously and gives engineers a lot of autonomy.

What you'll do

• Find new sources of audio data and build reliable pipelines that bring them into training datasets.
• Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems, balancing data quality, throughput and cost.
• Work closely with AI scientists to improve training datasets and support next-generation model development.
• Own engineering projects from problem definition through implementation and ongoing improvement.

What you need

• A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with solid backend fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments.
• Experience building and running production systems, ideally data pipelines or large-scale data processing.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous situations and take initiative.
• Must be located in the United States.
• Experience with web crawlers, data acquisition, or distributed data-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, especially GCP and Terraform.
