Software Engineer, AI Data (Remote - US only)

The team is fully distributed with no office. A fast-growing consumer audio technology company with a fully distributed team is hiring a software engineer to build the data pipelines behind its model training and next-generation AI products. The company's mission is to make reading accessible to anyone who learns differently. The role sits on the AI team and focuses on producing large, high-quality audio and language datasets at scale and at low cost. The work is autonomous and asynchronous, with close collaboration between engineers and AI researchers.

What you'll do

• Find and evaluate new sources of audio data and build reliable pipelines to bring them into training datasets.
• Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems, optimizing for data quality, throughput and cost.
• Work closely with AI scientists to refine training datasets and support new model development.
• Own engineering projects from problem discovery through implementation and ongoing improvement.
• Operate production systems that run continuously and handle large data volumes.

What you need

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments.
• Experience building and running production data pipelines or large-scale data processing systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in ambiguous settings.
• Must be located in the United States.
