AI/ML Modeling Team Lead

A remote, worldwide role leading an AI and machine learning modeling team on a defence data programme that supports aircraft maintenance and readiness. The work turns historical maintenance records and sensor telemetry into predictive models for component failures and fleet scheduling, delivered within a government analytics environment. It suits an experienced data science leader who enjoys guiding technical teams, setting modeling standards, and explaining complex results to non-technical decision makers. Active secret-level security clearance is required.

What you'll do

• Lead day-to-day delivery of a modeling team, including task prioritisation, sprint planning and peer reviews
• Translate mission objectives and stakeholder needs into modeling requirements and acceptance criteria
• Guide modeling techniques, feature engineering, validation and performance trade-offs
• Review modeling pipelines and documentation for quality and data governance compliance
• Work with engineers, developers and stakeholders to integrate models into production pipelines
• Mentor data scientists and analysts on best practices, version control and documentation

What you need

• 6+ years of progressive experience in data science, advanced analytics or machine learning
• Experience leading technical projects or multidisciplinary teams
• Agile delivery experience (e.g. Scrum or Kanban)
• Ability to communicate complex methods and results to non-technical leaders
• Working knowledge of modern data platforms, cloud architectures and visualisation tools
• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience
