Backend Engineer, Repository Management

A full-time, remote backend role in the repository management team of a DevSecOps software company, building features that help customers configure their code repositories safely. The work centres on Ruby and GraphQL services for a critical, high-traffic system, including guardrails for codebases where both people and AI agents contribute. It suits an intermediate engineer who enjoys backend design, careful testing and clear asynchronous teamwork, and who is comfortable reviewing AI-generated code and taking part in on-call support.

What you'll do

• Build secure, well-tested and performant backend features using Ruby and GraphQL
• Design solutions for complex requirements and legacy constraints while protecting system reliability
• Contribute to backend services, APIs, data models and business logic for repository management
• Work with product, design, security, documentation and engineering colleagues
• Use AI agents for well-scoped tasks and critically review their output
• Monitor production health, take part in Tier 2 on-call and contribute to root cause analysis

What you need

• Professional experience building backend web applications, services or APIs, with Ruby and GraphQL or a clear ability to learn them
• Understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modelling, caching, background processing and backend performance
• Experience with policy, permissions or rules-based features in web applications
• Experience writing backend unit and integration tests, with familiarity with Git and code review
• Experience using AI coding tools or agents, with the ability to review their output
• Clear written and spoken English and the ability to manage priorities and ownership in a remote, asynchronous setting
