Container Platform Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)
Candidates can apply from any country; the team works asynchronously across time zones. A developer backend platform company runs a managed Kubernetes platform that its other engineering teams build and deploy on top of. This team owns cluster lifecycle, multi-cluster and multi-region topology, capacity and scheduling, runtime isolation and safety, platform APIs, deployment contracts, rollout primitives, and secret injection. The role focuses on making the platform reliable, observable, and inexpensive to run at scale, and on making the safe path the easy path for product teams. It is hands-on engineering and operations work, not a gatekeeping function.
What you'll do
- Define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets for the container platform, and build policies that gate platform changes when budgets are exhausted.
- Run the operational readiness review process for new platform capabilities and major changes.
- Build and maintain controllers, operators, internal tooling and platform APIs as production code.
- Design platform CI/CD and rollout primitives that speed up deployments within change management controls.
- Lead blameless postmortems, find repeat failure patterns, and drive systemic fixes; take part in the on-call rota.
- Identify operational toil, automate it away, and advise product teams on alert quality, runbooks and on-call practices.
What you need
- 5+ years in platform engineering, Kubernetes platform operations, SRE or production infrastructure, including carrying on-call for production systems at scale.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: container and orchestration tooling (Kubernetes, containerd, CNCF ecosystem), software engineering in Go or a comparable systems language, or SRE practice (SLOs, error budgets, incident response).
- Experience with multi-tenant isolation, from namespaces, RBAC and network policies through to stronger isolation primitives.
- Working knowledge of AWS (accounts, IAM, VPC) and infrastructure as code (Pulumi, Terraform or CDK).
- Strong written English and clear async communication with infrastructure specialists and product engineers.
Open to applicants anywhere in the world.
