Engineering Manager (Remote - Nigeria)

This role is with a fast-growing African financial technology company that provides payments, banking, credit and business management tools to millions of businesses and individuals each month. You will lead one or more product engineering teams, owning delivery from technical planning through release while keeping engineers productive and aligned with product goals. The position combines people leadership with hands-on technical influence on design, code quality and production reliability.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end delivery across cross-functional teams in your product area, with predictable and high-quality outcomes.
• Assess product requirements for technical feasibility and architectural fit, and break them into well-defined epics and user stories.
• Work with product managers, designers and engineers to groom, prioritise and refine the backlog.
• Run sprint planning and execution, track timelines and milestones, and surface dependencies early.
• Monitor team velocity and capacity, balancing bandwidth against delivery commitments, and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
• Ensure monitoring, alerting and observability for owned services, meeting agreed SLIs and SLOs.

What you need

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical field.
• 8-10 years in software development or a similar hands-on engineering role, including 5+ years building production systems with Java and Spring Boot.
• At least 3 years of engineering leadership managing high-performing teams.
• Solid Agile experience and a track record of improving delivery predictability and engineering excellence.
• Experience with CI/CD, release management, incident response and blameless root cause analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder reporting.
