IP Counsel (Remote - US only)

A growing life sciences diagnostics company focused on cancer testing is hiring an in-house IP Counsel to manage IP risk and support technology transactions. The role works across scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial and executive teams to turn complex IP questions into practical, business-focused guidance. It suits a lawyer who enjoys fast-moving work and building out an IP program.

What you'll do

• Lead freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses across product lifecycles and strategic initiatives.
• Advise on risk mitigation options such as design-arounds, licensing strategies and other practical approaches.
• Support pre-litigation matters, IP disputes, oppositions and other proceedings, and help build proactive IP risk processes.
• Review, negotiate and draft research collaboration, material transfer, data use, licensing and other agreements with significant IP content.
• Advise on IP ownership, data rights and publication rights in R&D agreements, and support patent prosecution as needed.
• Develop IP training for the organization and manage outside IP counsel and legal budgets.

What you need

• J.D. or equivalent law degree with an active bar membership.
• At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, including substantive life sciences IP work (diagnostics, biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, genomics or similar).
• Hands-on experience conducting and advising on freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses.
• Interest in and experience with transactional work on complex agreements with IP components; interest in patent prosecution support is welcome.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage several priorities at once.
• Must be based in the United States.
