Postgres Deployment Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)

A fully remote, asynchronous role with a developer platform company built around open-source PostgreSQL. The team ships Postgres builds as Docker images and cloud machine images, and this engineer keeps those releases stable and reliable. It suits an experienced database or DevOps engineer who enjoys packaging, release automation and working closely with both product and infrastructure teams. Candidates from any country are welcome to be considered.

What you'll do

• Package Postgres software for the public repository using Nix flakes or Debian packaging, depending on the target
• Handle timely PostgreSQL major, minor and extension upgrades
• Extend GitHub Actions workflows, team tooling, and testing and release processes
• Investigate and fix production issues in customer deployments and work through GitHub and support issues
• Help developers self-serve more of the release system and teach the team to use Nix-based tooling
• Build best practices, tools and tests that reduce deployment risk

What you need

• 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, including extensions and performance tuning
• Working knowledge of Ansible, Nix (including flakes), Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS and Kubernetes
• Experience building for Linux and macOS aarch64 targets
• Experience with conventional and Nix-packaged builds of C/C++, Go, JavaScript and Rust
• Comfortable with regular customer interaction and mixed Nix and conventional packaging
• Self-directed and able to work well asynchronously
