Senior Narrative & Gender Analyst

A remote contract role for an experienced qualitative and gender researcher based in Nigeria, leading narrative analysis on a project covering gender, social norms and related health themes. The hiring organisation works in health and development programmes in northern Nigeria. The role suits a senior researcher with deep knowledge of the region, experience of gender-based violence or early and forced marriage work, and skill in building coding frameworks, supervising coding teams and applying trauma-informed practice. Candidates should be native Hausa speakers with fluent English.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain the coding framework and project narrative register
• Recruit, train and calibrate Hausa coders to a high inter-coder reliability standard, and resolve coding disagreements
• Identify dominant narratives and counter-narratives on GBV, early and forced marriage, and family and social norms
• Lead narrative analysis for periodic learning reports and the final report
• Advise on gender-responsive and trauma-informed framing across project outputs

What you need

• Master's degree in gender studies, sociology, anthropology, public health, communication or a related field; PhD preferred
• At least 7 years of professional qualitative or gender research experience in Northern Nigeria
• Proven work on GBV or early and forced marriage
• Experience developing codebooks and supervising coding teams using NVivo, Atlas.ti or similar
• Native Hausa speaker with fluent English
• Trauma-informed practice when handling GBV-related content; strong team leadership and coaching skills
