Senior Software Engineer, Security (Remote, Belgium)

A mission-driven, non-profit-backed technology company that builds open-source software used by hundreds of millions of people each month. The security team works on hardening a large, complex, multi-platform native application and its core protections. This is a fully remote role for someone based in Belgium, working with distributed teams.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, test and ship security and hardening features for enterprise users.
• Improve core security architecture across multiple operating systems, including privilege isolation and trust boundary changes.
• Strengthen security mechanisms such as cryptographic protocols, WebPKI and security-sensitive web APIs.
• Investigate security issues across teams, find root causes and deliver robust, maintainable fixes.
• Diagnose and resolve stability, correctness, performance and memory issues in a multithreaded environment.

What you need

• 3+ years of low-level software engineering experience with strong proficiency in C and/or C++.
• Solid understanding of security fundamentals and experience with systems-level debugging.
• Experience working on multithreaded, cross-platform native applications, including memory and performance problems.
• Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript); interest in or experience with Rust is a plus.
• Ability to work in large, multi-language codebases and communicate technical ideas clearly in writing and conversation.
• Must be based in Belgium.
