Senior Software Engineer, Security (Remote, France)

Join a mission-driven, non-profit-backed technology company that builds open-source software used by hundreds of millions of people each month. This senior engineering role focuses on security for a large, cross-platform native desktop application, where you will design and ship hardening features and improve the core security architecture. The team works in a distributed, multi-language codebase and values clear written and spoken communication.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, test and ship security and hardening features, including those aimed at enterprise users.
• Contribute to security architecture work such as privilege isolation and changes to trust boundaries across multiple operating systems.
• Improve core security mechanisms, including cryptographic protocols, WebPKI handling and security-sensitive web APIs.
• Investigate security issues across teams, find root causes and deliver robust, maintainable fixes.
• Diagnose and resolve stability, correctness, performance and memory issues in a complex, multithreaded environment.

What you need

• At least 3 years of experience in low-level software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in C and/or C++ and a solid grasp of security fundamentals.
• Experience debugging multithreaded, cross-platform native applications, including memory and performance problems.
• Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript); interest in or experience with Rust is a plus.
• Experience working with distributed teams and communicating technical ideas clearly in writing and in conversation.
• Must be located in France to apply.
