Senior Software Engineer, Security (Remote, United Kingdom)

A mission-driven technology company that builds open-source software used by hundreds of millions of people each month is hiring a senior engineer for its security team. The work centres on the security of a widely used web browser, covering core security mechanisms, system hardening and reliability in a large, complex native codebase. The company is distributed across many countries and values clear written communication and thoughtful engineering.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, test and ship security and hardening features aimed at enterprise users
• Improve the security architecture across several operating systems, including privilege isolation and changes to trust boundaries
• Strengthen core security mechanisms such as cryptographic protocols, WebPKI and security-sensitive web APIs
• Investigate security issues across teams, find root causes and deliver robust, maintainable fixes
• Diagnose and resolve stability, correctness, performance and memory issues in a multithreaded environment

What you need

• At least 3 years of low-level software engineering experience with strong C and/or C++ skills
• Solid grounding in security fundamentals
• Experience debugging multithreaded, cross-platform native applications, including memory and performance problems
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript; interest in or experience with Rust is a plus
• Ability to work effectively in large, multi-language codebases
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with distributed teams
• Must be based in the United Kingdom
