Site Reliability Engineer (Remote - Worldwide)
A developer platform company offering a full backend suite for building applications, with managed database infrastructure running at large scale. The company is building a dedicated site reliability practice to raise reliability across all engineering teams. This role sits within Service Operations and focuses on enabling teams to own their own reliability through shared standards, frameworks and feedback loops rather than by running their infrastructure directly.
What you'll do
- Work with service teams to define meaningful SLIs and SLOs based on customer experience, and build error budget policies that guide engineering decisions
- Own and improve the Operational Readiness Review process for new services and major changes, covering observability, alerting, runbooks, capacity and graceful degradation
- Connect postmortem findings to readiness gaps, spot repeat failure patterns and drive systemic fixes
- Serve as the reliability expert for architecture reviews, failure mode analysis, dependency mapping and resilience design
- Measure operational toil across the organization and build or advocate for automation to remove it
- Help teams improve on-call health through alert quality, escalation paths, runbook coverage and noise reduction
What you need
- 7+ years in SRE, production engineering or reliability-focused roles, including experience shaping SRE practices across multiple engineering teams
- Strong software engineering skills; you build tools and code, not only configure systems
- Hands-on experience defining and running SLOs/SLIs at scale, with error budget policies that changed engineering decisions
- Deep experience with incident response and postmortem facilitation
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi preferred; Terraform or CDK acceptable)
- Clear written and spoken communication, and the ability to influence without formal authority in a distributed organization
Open to applicants anywhere in the world.
