Software Engineer, AI Data (Remote, United Kingdom)

This is a software engineering role on the AI team of a fully distributed company that builds consumer audio and reading tools used by tens of millions of people. The team constructs the high-quality, large-scale datasets used to train models and power new AI products. The work blends engineering, infrastructure and applied research, with a strong emphasis on asynchronous collaboration and independent ownership.

What you'll do

• Find new sources of audio data and build reliable pipelines that bring them into training datasets.
• Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems, balancing data quality, throughput and cost.
• Work closely with AI scientists to refine training data and support next-generation model development.
• Own engineering projects end to end, from identifying the problem through implementation and ongoing improvement.

What you need

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with solid backend fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments.
• Experience building and operating production systems, ideally data pipelines or large-scale data processing.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in ambiguous settings.
• Must be based in the United Kingdom to apply.
• Experience with web crawlers, data acquisition or distributed data-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, particularly GCP and Terraform.
