Software Engineer, AI Data (Remote - US only)

Fully distributed team with no office; work asynchronously from anywhere in the US. This is a software engineering role on the AI team of a fast-growing company that builds AI-powered audio and reading technology. The team builds the large-scale data pipelines used for AI model training and new AI products. You will work on sourcing audio data, processing it at very large scale, and keeping datasets high in quality and efficient to produce. The company is fully remote and values autonomy and asynchronous collaboration.

What you'll do

• Find new sources of audio data and build reliable pipelines to bring them into training datasets.
• Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems with a focus on data quality, throughput and cost.
• Work closely with AI scientists to improve training data and support next-generation model development.
• Own engineering projects from problem discovery through implementation and ongoing improvement.

What you need

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments.
• Experience building and operating production systems, ideally data pipelines or large-scale data processing.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in ambiguous settings.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Experience with web crawlers, data acquisition or distributed data-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, particularly GCP and Terraform.
