Technical Program Associate or Manager (Remote - Selected Countries incl. Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa)
Pay: n/a. Requires about 3 hours of daily overlap with East Africa Time. A fast-growing nonprofit that delivers direct cash transfers to people in extreme poverty and crisis is building new technology for its field operations and payments. This role owns the technology side of new program launches, from requirements through to closeout. The organization is hiring at either Associate or Manager level depending on experience, with more independence for the stronger candidate.
What you'll do
- Lead technical delivery for program launches, including scoping, gathering requirements with operations, configuring and implementing systems, testing, troubleshooting and closeout.
- Work with operations, product, research, engineering and data teams so that systems meet program goals and function reliably in field conditions.
- Debug and resolve problems across several layers of the tech stack, including the recipient database and offline field survey tools.
- Scope and manage cross-cutting improvements to efficiency, scale and recipient experience, with mentorship from senior staff.
- Make sure systems meet data protection, privacy and financial control standards, and run training and onboarding for operations staff.
- Facilitate retrospectives on launches and technical incidents to drive continuous improvement.
What you need
- 3+ years of professional experience, for example in project management, product management, data analytics, international development or consulting.
- Strong project management skills: managing timelines, stakeholders and complex deliverables.
- Strong data skills and deep comfort with Excel or Google Sheets; intermediate Python or another scripting language for automating workflows and validating data.
- Fluent English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues across cultures.
- Current residence in one of the listed countries, and willingness to travel about 1-2 times per year to countries of operation. Experience with SQL is a plus.
