Commercial Legal Lead (Visa Sponsorship - San Francisco, United States)

Visa sponsorship available. This is the first dedicated commercial legal hire at a fast-growing AI infrastructure company that provides the tools, inference platform and model access teams use to bring generative media products into production. You will be an individual contributor who owns the commercial legal function from the ground up, covering customer, licensing and infrastructure deals. The role suits a hands-on builder who wants founding-level ownership without managing a legal department. Equity and a comprehensive benefits package are included.

What you'll do

• Draft and negotiate complex buy-side and sell-side commercial agreements, including enterprise customer contracts, SaaS and API licensing, and IP or model/content licensing.
• Handle data center, compute capacity and hyperscaler or infrastructure partnership agreements.
• Build the commercial legal foundation: templates, negotiation playbooks, contract workflows and contract lifecycle management tooling.
• Work directly with go-to-market, sales and leadership to close deals quickly while managing legal risk.
• Advise on privacy and related matters as the business scales.

What you need

• At least 8 years of relevant commercial legal experience.
• Background from a top-tier law firm combined with in-house experience at a technology, cloud infrastructure, SaaS or AI company.
• Proven record of drafting and negotiating complex commercial deals on both buy-side and sell-side.
• Active US bar membership in good standing; California or New York preferred. Registered in-house status is acceptable.
• Based in San Francisco and able to work in the office five days a week.
• Preferred: experience at a model lab, AI startup or high-growth company where systems were built from scratch, plus exposure to infrastructure capacity, data center, procurement, GPU or model/content licensing.
